Newsletter - March 2008

Greater St. Louis Ninety-Nines Newsletter
March 2008

March meeting: Saturday, March 15, 2008, St. Louis Downtown Airport
11:30 am – meet for Lunch at Oliver’s Restaurant in the main terminal
(north ramp)
1:00 pm – meeting and program at the Greater St. Louis Air & Space
Museum, Hangar #2

As you come from the north, hangar #2 is the first of the original brick
hangars on the west ramp just south of the Parks College facility

Our speaker will be Rose Church, RN. Rose was a McDonnell-Douglas employee and the head flight nurse for the Mercury and Gemini programs. She knew all of the original astronauts and has many great stories both about the testing and training for the space program and about the astronauts themselves. This should be an excellent program so I hope all of you who are in the area can attend.

If you’re looking for the minutes of the January meeting, they were accidentally deleted from my computer and will be distributed at the meeting on Saturday. I will send copies of the January and March minutes with the April Newsletter.

Just a head-up so everyone puts this on her calendar. Our April meeting will be on Saturday, April 19, at the Missouri State Police hangar at Spirit of St. Louis Airport (SUS). We will tour tour the hangar in the morning (I think about 10 am) followed by our meeting and a group lunch. Details will be in the April Newsletter.

Library Exhibit
Sally Siebe has written a brief article and attached an album of photos of our traveling library display on the web. You can get to the photos at the following link:

If anyone has additional photos send them to Sally and they can be added to the album.
We received a note from Kayleen Amerson stating that the folks at the library in Mascoutah, IL, loved our exhibit and said it got more attention than anything they'd had up in a long time.

Air Marking:
Our chapter is still planning to paint the compass rose at Greenville Airport this spring. Ann Mongiovi volunteered to help organizing this project at the January meeting, but we still need a couple more volunteers to gather materials and plan the work. If you would like to serve on the air marking committee, please contact Libby at girlpilot@sbcglolbal.net or 314-725-0428.

Member News:
We received the following note from Kim Atkins:
“I am not sure if you heard but I have moved to Aviano, Italy. The job offer was short notice and one that I could not turn down. Lots of responsibility and stress but that is where I thrive.

One other big thing is that I got married on 15 Jan 08. The only way that my (now husband) could get orders to Italy was for us to be married and we decided that our relationship was too wonderful to miss the chance to spend out lives together. Sounds like drama but it's not as we will be very happy once we are finally together. My 16 year old, Samantha will join me in May then Jason and his 13 year old son will move here in June.”
