September 2013

September meeting and Chapter Birthday Party:  September 28, 2013
Place and time to be announced.

(As of 9/23/13)
As mentioned in the Newsletter, September is our Chapter's 72nd birthday. We will be celebrating at noon on Saturday, 28 September, at noon at Jean Murry's house, 33 Oakland Hills, Chesterfield MO. This will be a pot luck, so please bring a covered dish to share. Please let Jean Murry know if you plan to attend the meeting: 314-469-3541. Birthday cake and ice cream will be provided.

Please mark your calendar for the September meeting.  This will most likely be the last membership meeting prior to the NCS Fall meeting at the DoubleTree from October 11-13.  We will be stuffing the goody bags and discussing the scheduling for the hospitality room.  By that time we should know how many people will be registered for the pizza party and Creve Coeur museum tour, and can plan transportation to these venues.   This will also be our Chapter Birthday party pot luck, so we hope to have a large turn-out of members.

NCS Fall Meeting:
If you have not already done so, please get your registration for the NCS Fall meeting to Martha Norman, 160 Cedar Lane, Ironton MO 63650.   You only need to register for those events you actually plan to attend, and full registration is just $99 for Chapter members.  Registration forms are available on the NCS website: www.ncs99s.org .  If you have any questions please contact Martha at 573-546-7472.

We need items for the Silent Auction.  Please bring new or lightly used  aviation books, aviation jewelry, or other items that you would like to donate, to the Chapter meeting in September or to the NCS meeting in October.  We will have the Silent Auction set up all day Saturday in the fly market room.  “Winners” will be announced at the end of the banquet on Saturday evening.

There are three changes to the meeting schedule.  1)  Jean and I will be at the hotel early on Friday and registration will be open from about 10 am to 5 pm.  2)  Wanda Johnston will be selling her Ninety Nines logoed merchandise at the fly market and we will have the fly market open from 10 am to 5 pm on Friday and before the business meeting and after the luncheon until about 6 pm on Saturday.  3)  The luncheon speaker will be Ed Guinness, Ph.D., Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Washington University.  He will be speaking on “exploring the surface of Mars with Rovers – Opportunity and Curiosity.  Our banquet speaker is former astronaut Sandra Magnus, Ph. D.

Chapter News:
The Chapter has been invited to participate in two events in November, so mark your calendars.

On Saturday, November 16 the Greater St. Louis Business Aviation Association (GSLBAA) is sponsoring their 1st annual trivia night to benefit the GSLBAA Educational Foundation and the Wings of Hope.  It will be held at CBC High School, 1850 La Salle Dr. at I-64 and I-270.   Doors open at 6 pm and trivia begins at 7 pm.  Bring your own snacks and drinks.  The cost is $25 per contestant or $200 for a table of 8.  We would like to have at least one table of Ninety Nines.

On Wednesday, November 20, the NGA (Defense Mapping Agency) will dedicate a conference room to the GSL Ninety Nines first chairman and former WASP, Del Scharr.  We have been invited to attend the dedication ceremony.   I will let the chapter know as soon as we get place and time information.  Members wishing to attend will need to let us know in advance since the NGA will need to get clearances prepared for us individually.

Nine members and guests attended our luncheon meeting at Creve Coeur Airport on July 21. As you can see from the photo below, Nelda Lee looks really great following her therapy.  A photo of the happy lunch group is attached to the newsletter.
