December meeting: Holiday Luncheon
11 am Saturday, 11 December 2010
The Mother-in-Law House Restaurant
500 S Main St.
St. Charles MO 63301
The restaurant is located in Old Town St. Charles on the east (river) side of Main Street at Tompkins Street. Guests can be dropped off directly in front of the restaurant. There is street parking and a large city parking lot behind along S. Riverside Dr. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, Main Street is always alive with carolers, musicians, carriage rides and Dickensian pageantry. There are many unique shops, making it a great place to look for unusual Christmas gifts.
Do not forget to bring non-perishable food and household items for the Circle of Concern food pantry. We will also be collecting small goodies for our wine and cheese raffle basket at the MACTS in January.
Please let Susan Van Matre know if you are planning to attend the luncheon at 618-604-0001 or slvanmatre@gmail.com
Chapter News:
Web Master Needed: The Chapter needs a volunteer to oversee our web site. This position requires no more than 1-2 hrs per month. You would be responsible for adding announcements, minutes and newsletters to the web site and deleting old information from the site. Please contact Jean Murry or Susan Van Matre if you are interested in helping out the Chapter.
In November we had a very informative tour of Lambert-St. Louis International Airport with the new director, Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge. We took a bus tour of the entire perimeter of the airport, including a run down the new runway. We also got to inspect the van that is used to determine runway stopping distance, which becomes reduced from rubber accumulation during multiple aircraft touch-downs. Rhonda answered our questions on a broad range of topics including the plans for the old McDonnell/Boeing site, potential new freight hubs, the impact of air carrier mergers on commercial operations, how landing fees are calculated and assessed, to name a few. We had no meeting in November, therefore, there are no November minutes.
Future Chapter Events:
Midwest Conference and Trade Show (MACTS) and Flight Instructors Revalidation Clinic will be held on Saturday-Sunday, 15-16 January 2011. The Super Safety Seminar is on Saturday morning, 15 January and the awards banquet will be that evening. Additional seminars that are open to the public are planned for Sunday as well. There is an excellent line-up of speakers including Rod Hightower, the new President/CEO of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Erik Lindberg, flight instructor and grandson of Charles Lindberg, and Ralph Hood, commercial pilot and aviation humorist. We will again have a booth on Saturday at this event and will be raffling off goodie baskets.
Girl Scout Event: Our chapter will be hosting a program for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri on Saturday, 19 March from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at Wings of Hope. There will between 20-40 girls in grades 6-12 (ages 11-18). Please reserve this date for the Girl Scout program, since we will need everyone’s commitment to do this properly.
Ninety Nines News:
I received the following information from Minetta Gardiner, editor of Waypoint:
First, we must apologize for not getting out the last issue of Waypoint. Rae Goodman has had some computer difficulties, and the issue is “locked” in her computer until she gets it back from repairs. So until I get an update from her, I cannot advise the membership when that issue will be shared with you. I am very sorry for this problem. In the meantime, I will be working on the next issue. And I will ensure that there is a back-up copy of the issue besides on my laptop only. So the January issue will be forthcoming.
It is Waypoint time again, and we are looking forward to receiving all the flying news that’s fit to print. The next issue of Waypoint will be released January 10th.
Send in your news and stories. Chapters should submit their materials by December 10th. Send your submissions to waypoint@ncs99s.org. Please put WAYPOINT in the subject line to help me sort out submissions from all of my other emails.
Please feel free to share this note (and attachments) with your chapter members, and we look forward to hearing about everybody’s activities. We are looking for news stories. We welcome stories about flying experiences that folks would like to share with others across the Section. It’s always great to hear about the achievements of our members and to learn about new members joining the 99s.
SPECIAL REQUEST: Does anybody have information and/or pictures of past NCS Governors and/or Charter 99s Members from NCS? As you may have noticed in the July issue, we did a new section to highlight our past Governors, and are looking to start another new section to highlight our charter members. Do we have any historians out there? I would really like to post a photo of our charter members in the upper right of the newsletter masthead on the front page. Please let us know.
