Our October meeting is scheduled to be held at the home of Martha Norman. The date is Saturday, October 18 at 2 PM. Here are directions to her home.

Directions to Martha's house:
From the west take 141 or I-270 to I-55 south, from the north take I-70 to I-55 south and from the east take I-255 to I-55 south. Get off at exit 174B, US67 south. After approximately 35.6 miles, exit at state hwy W. Turn right at the bottom of the exit ramp and continue on Hwy W for about 7 miles. Turn left at state hwy V. Continue on State Hwy V for about 8.6 miles. This ends at Maple Street in Pilot Knob. Take a slight left at Maple Street and continue about a quarter mile to MO-21. Continue past Madison St. on MO-21 south to MO-72 (You will turn right on Pine St. and then left onto MO-72 (which does not seem to have another name but there is a Casa Hueva Restaurant on the left and a grocery on the right). Go about 0.5 mi. and turn left on Russellville Rd (there is a stone gazebo on the northeast corner of Russelville and MO-72). Go another approx. 0.5 mi and turn right on Cemetery Rd (there's a cemetery on the corner). In another approx. 0.5 mi the road will jog right and then left, past the second job turn right on Country Club Dr. and then left on Cedar Lane (looks like it's the first left turn off Country Club Dr. If you get to the Country Club you've gone too far. Martha's house is on the left side on Cedar Lane.

If you want to fly into Farmington instead of driving. let Martha know in advance so that she can arrange transportation to her house from the airport.

There are other plans if you are interested and would like to participate. It should be lots of fun!
Hello Fellow Niney-Nines,

Martha Norman has offered to have the October meeting at her home in Ironton MO at 2 pm on Sunday, 18 October. Martha's church is having a weiner roast and hay ride at 4 pm on Sunday and anyone wishing to stay is very welcome. Jean Murry has offered to drive down anand Bob and I will either drive down or fly into Farmington depending on the weather. Both of us can take passengers (Jean can take 3, I can take 2). Jean is not planning to stay for the hay ride, Bob and I probably will stay for the hayride.

Please respond to this e-mail if you plan to attend the meeting. Mention whether or not you plan to stay for the hayride. Also let me know if you plan to drive down to Ironton and if you can take passengers. Ths will be a great opportunity to see the fall foliage and stop at St. Genevieve or Kimmswick on the way down or back. I hope many of our members will plan to attend.

COMPASS ROSE PAINTING: The painting of the compass rose has been postponed until April. Keep some time open during that month and plan to help.

Minutes of Meeting

Members attending: Jan Pocock, Jean Murry, Delia Greer, Gussie Freese, Martha Norman, and Kayleen Amerson.
Ruby, Delia, and Kayleen had to leave early.

Vice Chairman Kayleen Amerson called the meeting to order at 1:40 pm.

MINUTES: The minutes from the July meeting were read by Kayleen Amerson. The motion to approve the minutes was made by Jean Murry and seconded by Gussie Freese and carried.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Martha Norman presented the treasurer’s report. The chapter took in $30 in dues, $30 for three luggage tags (at $10 a piece), and a raffle ticket was sold. $77 went to Waypoint. A note was made that paper Waypoints are now $7, up $2 from last year. Members who do not mind receiving only electronic copies are encouraged to discontinue their paper copies to save chapter funds. The chapter currently has $2,892.46 in savings and $3,181.64 in checking. Martha Norman will move $1,000 this month from checking to savings. The total chapter funds are $6,074.10. The motion to approve the report was made by Jan Pocock and seconded by Delia Greer and passed.

OLD BUSINESS: Jean Murry reminded members that this was our chapter’s 60th birthday. The Greater St. Louis Chapter is one of the oldest in the North Central Section.

Library Exhibits. The library exhibits were discussed and the consensus was to carry on into next year. County libraries will host the exhibit every two years, so we can start going back to libraries that have already hosted. Gussie Freese reminded members that we should look for opportunities outside libraries to set up the display, such as The Pointe, a sports and recreation center in Ballwin, MO.

Compass Rose Painting. It was decided to do the painting at Greenville Airport (KGRE) on October 24 and 25th. The airport will provide the paint and have the needed survey completed prior to our project. Jean Murry will buy chalk lines, sidewalk chalk, roller covers and be reimbursed from the chapter. Chapter members are asked to bring and supplies they have available, to include: rags, rollers (with extension poles), brushes, tape measures, paper towels, and rubber gloves. Be sure to wear old clothes and shoes as it can get messy.

NEW BUSINESS: Delia Greer explained that Jimmy’s, the location of the chapter Christmas party, will only accept checks or cash, so come prepared. No credit/debit cards will be accepted.

Kayleen Amerson read a note from the 99s Public Relations Chairman about the movie premiere of the Fox Searchlight movie Amelia. It was suggested in the note to have an informational booth set up in area theaters during the first two weeks after the movie is released. The opening is October 23rd. The painting coincides with the previously scheduled compass rose painting so the topic was tabled for possible discussion at the October meeting at Greenville.

The motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Jan Pocock and seconded by Delia Greer. The meeting adjourned at 2:15 PM.

Minutes of Meeting

Members attending: Libby Younger, Jan Pocock, Jean Murry, Mary Kinnaw, Delia Greer, Kayleen Amerson, Ruby Fudoli and Ruth Bohnert.
Ruby, Delia, and Kayleen had to leave early.

Chairman Libby Younger called the meeting to order at 2:30 pm.

MINUTES: The minutes from the July meeting were presented by Mary Kinnaw. The motion to approve the minutes was made by Jan Pocock and seconded by Ruth Bohnert and carried.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Martha Norman absent. Her report was presented by Libby Yunger. Sales money from luggage tags and compass rose patches was deposited in the scholarship fund. The motion to approve the report was made by Jan Pocock and seconded by Mary Kinnaw and passed.

OLD BUSINESS: Jean Murry has requested we change the date of the Chapter Birthday Party to September 27. The time will be 12:30 PM and if you need more time after church services later will be fine. This event will be held at Jean’s home and she will furnish meat and Birthday Cake. Please bring a side dish for pot luck. Be sure to come and celebrate!!!

NEW BUSINESS: Compass Rose Painting. It was decided to do the painting at Greenville Airport on October 24 and 25th. If necessary we will have a later date in case of rain. The airport will provide the paint and possibly barbeque for workers.
Libby will talk with the folks at that airport to get the needed survey prior to our project.

Libby discussed having a Girl Scout Program regarding careers in aviation for women since we have had a request from Laura Dierberg Ayers to provide this service to the girl scouts. Jean suggested we have this at the Wings of Hope location. It was decided to do the program and the location would be a good one.

LIBRARY EXHIBITS: The library exhibits were discussed and the schedule has been set up. Libby Yunger said she is giving a talk at the Maplewood Library on May 10 at 7 PM. She will also be speaking at the Missouri Pilots Association on Wednesday October 14. Try to attend on the 14th and give our support as 99’s! Libby is willing to speak at other libraries if requested to do so.

INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION: Jan Pocock, Jean Murry and Martha Norman attended the International Convention in Chicago and were in charge of the hospitality room for our chapter. They purchased all the food and set up the room which was a big job for them. International did re-imburse our chapter for all the expense. They reported the convention was a big success and well attended. They had a great time!

Libby reported the St. Charles Zonta organization is having a dinner meeting on September 19 and the Speaker is Wally Funk. A cocktail reception is planned at 5:30 PM. They would welcome us to attend.


The motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mary Kinnaw and seconded by Jean Murry. The meeting adjourned at 3:02 PM.

If you missed this event, It was a very well organized open house for Smartt Field. The weather was beautiful and there were a lot of planes on display that were very interesting. We met many nice people and had a great time!

The next meeting of the Greater St. Louis Ninety Nines will be Saturday August 29 at Smartt Field (St. Charles County Airport) This is the occasion of their open house. We will have an information table from 9AM to 4PM. Jean Murry will bring a canopy, folding table and chairs. Bring folding chairs for yourself if possible. Food will be available for purchase at the new “Fly Girls Restaurant’’ on the field, and it is reported the food there is quite good.

The meeting will start after lunch, about 1:30 pm depending on the traffic at the booth.

There is a change in the October meeting schedule - instead of meeting at Creve Coeur Airport we will be painting a compass rose at Greenville Airport (GRE). At the meeting on Saturday we will try to identify the weekend with the least conflict plus an alternate time in case of inclement weather. If you cannot attend the meeting please e-mail your choice of weekend to girlpilot@sbcglobal.net We will need to get back to the folks at Greenville with the information in early September.

We look forward to the Chapter Birthday Party which will be at noon on Saturday, September 19 at Jean Murry's home. A pot luck is planned so bring goodies! This is always fun so be sure to attend.

The Gateway Chapter of the Missouri Pilots Association is sponsoring a speaker, Fred Schiezer, Professor Emeritus in the Aviation Dept. at the University of Central Missouri. His program will be “What Really Happened to Amelia Earhart”. This program will be at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, September 9 at the Columns Banquet Center in St. Charles. If you would like to eat dinner with the Missouri Pilots, dinner buffet starts at 6:30 pm and the cost is $15 per person. For dinner reservations call Jean Murry at 314-469-3541.

I have had no news from anyone, but we do want to welcome two new members to our chapter, Catherine Babis and Shelby Stein.

Minutes of Meeting

Members attending: Libby Younger, Gussie Freese, Jan Pocock, Jean Murry, Vivian Waters, Sue Mathias, Mary Kinnaw, Delia Greer, Ruth Bohnert and Nelda Lee.
Visitors: Former member, Peggy Gilbey and 491/2 Jack Kinnaw.

Chairman Libby Younger called the meeting to order at 12:40 pm.

MINUTES: The minutes from the Installation Meeting were read by Mary Kinnaw. There was one correction, Martha Norman will also be attending the International Convention in Chicago along with Jean Murry and Jan Pocock.
Vivian Waters made the motion to approve the corrected minutes and this was seconded by Gussie Freese and passed.

Treasurer’s Report: Martha Norman absent. Her report was presented by Mary Kinnaw.
Nelda Lee made a motion to give a $100.00 donation to the Amelia Eahrhart birthplace and home. After some discussion, this was seconded by Jan Pocock and passed.

Chairman Libby Younger asked to set up meetings for the coming year and they are as follows:
*August 29-30 Smaart Field Open House from 9-2PM. We will have an information table with flyers and we need workers there. On Saturday the 29th a meeting will follow lunch at 1PM at our table.
*September 26th 12 Noon-Our chapter birthday party will be a pot luck luncheon at the home of Jean Murry.
*October 17 or 18, Sally Siebe is planning a meeting at Creve Coeur Airport. The information will be provided later.
*November 14, Clayton Library 11AM at the corner of Clayton and Central. Libby will be presenting a talk on 99 Years of Women in Aviation, 1910-2009.
*December 12 at noon – Christmas Party at Jimmy’s on the Park. Delia Greer will host.
*January: MACTS To be announced later.
*February: Gussie Freese will host a Pot Luck Lunch.
*March 20: Wings Of Hope. Jean Murry will host.
*April: Highland Winet Glider Port – Kayleen Amerson and Ann Mongiovi will host.
*May 15: Installation Luncheon (tentative) Jan Pocock will host.

Thanks to everyone for helping and volunteering as hostesses. We all look forward to an exciting year!

Committee Chairmen: All committee Chairmen stay the same except:
Membership is now Jean Murry.
Waypoint is now Sally Siebe.
Newsletter_Chapter is now Mary Kinnaw.
Publications Chairman is now dropped since there are no other publications.

Libby opened a discussion regarding our Library Displays. Gussie said she would be happy to continue as chairman and it was decided that we should be open to having our displays at other locations as well.

Nelda Lee reported she had attended the Forest Of Friendship and there were 33 inductees. She said the Forest was looking very beautiful and the program was extremely interesting. She suggested more of our members should attend or visit.

International Convention: Jan reported our chapter is responsible for the Hospitality Room and they need help with the refreshments there. Vivian Waters made the motion to have our chapter donate $500.00 for food purchases and after some discussion It was decided we could make up the difference if more money is needed. Nelda Lee seconded the motion and the motion carried.

The motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mary Kinnaw and seconded by Jan Pocock and the meeting adjourned at 2:44 PM

Newsletter - July 2009

July meeting: Saturday, 11 July, 11:30 am

We have the clubhouse and swimming pool from 11 am to 5 pm. II suggest lunch at 11:30 am and meeting at 12:30 pm. I will bring sandwich meat and bread and everyone else should bring some sort of covered (or uncovered) dish.

To get to Chapter One Club House from the east, take I-270 or MO-141 (Woods Mill Rd) to US 40 (I-64) west. Go across the Missouri River into St. Charles County to Exit 10 (MO-94) toward St. Charles. Turn right at the exit ramp and go approximately 0.5 mi to Siedentop Rd. Turn left on Siedentop and then continue straight onto Hemingway Lane (Siedentop goes off to the left) to the Club House.

Agenda items will include planning for the Smartt Field open house 29-30 August. We will have a table there. What are we going to do - sell anything? Who will work and what time? Saturday and Sunday or just Saturday? I anticipate it will be busy Saturday 10 am to 2 pm. I don't know about the busy times on Sunday. I have attached the Smartt Open House flyer

Also since it's the beginning of the year we need to do committees chairmen again! I would also like to get some type of meeting schedule arranged.

I also would like to know if our chapter would like to support the By-Laws amendment proposed by the Jedi Council of the Ninety-Nines organization. That is also attached. (it and the rationale for it are 4 pages long - these are certainly ladies who cannot be brief).

Meeting Minutes - May 2009

GREATER ST. LOUIS CHAPTER NINETY NINES
MINUTES
MAY 23, 2009

This meeting was called to order at 1:20 PM by Vice Chairman, Jean Murry in the absence of Chairman Sally Siebe. The meeting followed a Luncheon at Jimmie’s Café on the Park, in Clayton Mo. This was our Installation Luncheon and Jan Pocock was in charge of the installation of new officers. Immediately following the Luncheon, the ceremony was begun and the new officers are:

Chairman: Libby Yunger
Vice Chairman: Kayleen Amersen
Treasurer: Martha Norman
Secretary: Mary Kinnaw/Martha Norman

Each incoming officer received a potted Spring plant.

Board Of Directors: Delia Greer, Sue Mathias, Vivian Waters and Jan Pocock.


This election was done by ballot and Jean Murry destroyed the ballots following the installation.


Libby Yunger said we now have 40 members on the roster with 26 local members. 18
ballots were cast. She said she plans to have the members volunteer to either plan a meeting each month or have the meeting at the member’s home. The new tine for meetings will be the third Saturday of each month. This has been established with International.

NIFA: Martha and Jean talked about the activities at NIFA and their experiences as judges.

Jean Murry and Jan Pocock are planning to attend the July International Convention in Chicago and discussed some of the plans. They are encouraging others to attend and showed all the plans for the convention which looked very interesting and fun also. It was a beautiful Spring day and a wonderful time was had by all attending.

The meeting adjourned at 2:20 PM.
